1. What is PT-141?

• Mechanism of action : PT-141 works by activating melanocortin receptors (MC4R, MC1R), thereby increasing sexual arousal and desire.
  • Unlike PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra and Cialis, it works through neurotransmitters in the brain rather than through the bloodstream.

2. Efficacy and effectiveness

• Approved for treatment of low-desire sexual dysfunction (HSDD) in women
  • In 2019, the FDA approved a treatment for HSDD in premenopausal women under the trade name Vyleesi .
• Application to male erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • PT-141 is also being studied as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), and is thought to be particularly effective for ED caused by psychological factors .

3. Method of administration and onset of effects

• How it's administered : Usually by subcutaneous injection (Vyleesi is also for self-injection).
• Time to onset of effect : The effect usually appears 30 minutes to an hour after injection and lasts for about 6 to 12 hours.
• Side effects :

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Facial flushing
